98% is the minimum that pupils should be achieving.

To achieve this we need to continue to work with parents/carers. It is vital that both parents and pupils understand that we believe that good attendance (above 98%) is vital to getting the most out of educational opportunities.

Punctuality and attendance figures are monitored on a daily and weekly basis. Each week the class with the highest attendance receives a certificate and additional playtime sessions. In addition, pupils receive certificates and prizes for 100% attendance during the school year.

On the first day of absence, parents are asked to contact the school office to inform school of the reasons for absence. The school will make contact with the parent or carer if no explanation has been received.

On return to school, we ask for a note and a reason for the absence.

Parents/carers should be made aware that if a child is to leave school during a session or to have an authorised absence known in advance (e.g. hospital appointment,) they must have an authorised absence slip obtainable from the school office. This is part of a citywide scheme, in consultation with the Police, as part of Truancy Watch to crack down on truancy and parentally condoned unjustified absence.
