Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

From September 2019, all primary schools will be required to teach age-appropriate relationships education.

However at Concord, we have always believed that an introduction to RSE in the primary school lays the foundation for factual knowledge and the more explicit information required by young people in later years.

It helps develop the child’s skills in being able to apply information and creates opportunities for reflecting on attitudes and values that may affect their decisions and choices in later years.

In Years 3 and 4, the children learn about healthy relationships and how to keep healthy and stay safe.

In Years 5 and 6, the children learn about growing and changing, personal hygiene, relationships and the building of self-esteem.  We believe this prepares children for the changes at puberty - physically, emotionally and socially.

In Year 6, children are taught more specifically about how our bodies change during puberty, sex, sexual exploitation and how to keep ourselves safe.
