Spanish

 Our Spanish Intent

At Concord, we believe that the knowledge, skills and understanding gained through learning a language contribute to the development of children’s oracy and literacy.  Learning a second language will also offer pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them, with a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences.

Our intent is that all pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages, finding them enjoying and stimulating. The aim is for pupils to feel willing and able to continue studying languages beyond KS2 - becoming life-long language learners.

How do we teach Spanish?

At Concord, we use the Language Angels scheme of work to support the teaching and learning of Spanish.  This provides clear progression for the development of speaking and listening and vocabulary acquisition.

Units are progressive within themselves, as subsequent lessons within a unit build on the language and knowledge taught in previous lessons.  As pupils progress through the lessons in a unit they will build their knowledge and develop the complexity of the language they use.

Key Concepts

At Concord, the teaching of Spanish is underpinned by two key concepts:

We feel that these key concepts provide them with the foundation needed to approach learning any new language in the future, including at the next phase of their educational journey.
