Stargazer Art

Y5 children have been working with an artist this term to create some wonderful pieces of artwork based on their Stargazers theme.

Did you know?

  • An astronaut or cosmonaut is a person trained by a spaceflight program to lead, pilot or be a crew member of an expedition to space on a spacecraft.
  • The term "astronaut” is derived from the Greek words astron, meaning "star", and nautes, meaning "sailor".
  • The first person to reach space was Soviet, Yuri Gagarin, in 1961, on board the spacecraft Vostok 1, he orbited Earth for 108 minutes.
  • The first woman in space was Soviet Valentina Tereshkova, in 1963. She orbited Earth for nearly 3 days aboard Vostok 6.
  • Tim Peake is the first British ESA astronaut, the second astronaut to bear a British flag patch (the first was Helen Sharman), the sixth person born in the UK to go on-board the International Space Station (the first was NASA astronaut Michael Foale in 2003) and the seventh UK-born person in space (the first was Helen Sharman, who visited Mir as part of Project Juno in 1991).
