Transition 2020

We want all of our children to feel happy, safe and secure. The quicker they settle in, the more confident they become, helping them to develop independence and enjoy their learning.

Change is a normal part of life and can provide opportunities for children to develop their resilience. Our arrangements are designed to reduce anxiety and promote a smooth transition at every stage of a child's educational journey.

Y2 to Y3 Transition

The transition from infant to junior school can seem as daunting as starting secondary school for some children. A new site, new teachers, and often new friends can make for an overwhelming experience.

The majority of pupils entering Concord in Y3, transfer from Wincobank NI School. Throughout the year, we work closely with the infant school to run a series of exciting transition events for pupils transferring to Concord. These events allow children and their parents to get to know their new setting and staff. However, with school closures due to Covid-19, it has not been possible to run our full series of transition events this year.

We want to assure parents and carers of all Y2 pupils due to transfer to Concord in September, that even though your child is not currently in school, we have been busy re-arranging how transition activities will take place this year.

In order to provide an introduction to the upcoming year, we are offering families of Y2 pupils the chance to participate in a transition meeting. This meeting is being offered in three different formats:
• face to face, in school following current social distance guidance
• virtual meeting via video call
• phone call

The information we provide to families will be updated on this page, with further details as soon as we are able to confirm arrangements for transition.  Click the link below.

Y2 UPDATE July 2020

Due to recent updates in guidance, we are now able to offer the current Y2 pupils a visit to Concord for either a morning or afternoon session where they can visit the school, meet staff, tour the grounds and take part in some transition activities. Although these activities will not be the full range we would like to run, it will be a good opportunity for your child to have an introduction to Concord.

The children will be attending in bubbles of 10, with each bubble allocated a time throughout the day. The timings have been sent to parents by their feeder infant school.

Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to invite parents onto site.

Although we know some parents and carers may be concerned about this visit to school, please be assured that all appropriate safety measures will be in place to ensure the children have a safe and enjoyable visit.

Please see below links to useful documents and order forms.  Copies of these forms will be given to your child during the transition visit.

Y6 to Y7 Transition

Most children will typically feel a mixture of nervous and excited about transitioning to secondary school. It is perfectly normal to feel a bit anxious or worried about a changing situation.

The transition to secondary school is also of importance to us and we strive to prepare our children well and equip them with the skill, knowledge and confidence to continue to the next stage in their educational journey.

Our children move on to a variety of secondary schools, although the vast majority of children transfer to Hinde House 3-16 School Secondary Phase.

Close liaison with all secondary schools ensures that the needs of our Y6s are met. Y6 teaching staff and the SENCo share their knowledge about each child with their future schools and provide detailed information in response to secondary school requests.

In a normal year our Y6 children would have already visited and met staff from their new schools and be preparing for a series of transition activities. However, due to the current situation, transition this year will be different. This has made some pupils more anxious about their move up to secondary.

We want to assure parents and carers of all our Y6 pupils that we are working with the secondary schools to plan transition activities where we can. In the meantime, the following videos provide some information about what to expect.

In School Transition

Usually during the Summer Term, we hold transition days and information sessions for current pupils and their parents to get to know their new teachers. Unfortunately, with school closures due to Covid-19, it has not been possible to do this so far this year.

In order to provide some closure for this academic year and an introduction to the upcoming year, we are offering all families the chance to participate in a transition meeting. This meeting is being offered in three different formats:
• face to face, in school following current social distance guidance
• virtual meeting via video call
• phone call
